What is a U-Clamp?

U-clamp (also called a U-bolt clamp or U-bolt) is a U-shaped metal fastener with two threaded legs used to secure pipes, cables, rods, and structural members to a surface or base plate. The clamp gets its name from its distinctive U-shape — the curve wraps around the pipe while the two threaded ends pass through a mounting plate and are tightened with nuts.

U-clamps are one of the most widely used pipe support components across construction, HVAC, plumbing, industrial piping, and automotive applications because of their simplicity, load-bearing strength, and ease of installation.

U-Clamp Types We Manufacture

  • Standard U-Clamp (U-Bolt) The most common configuration — U-bolt with two threaded legs, used with base plate and two nuts. Available in all materials and finishes.
  • Galvanized U-Clamp Hot-dip or electro-galvanized finish for outdoor, construction, and corrosive environments. The galvanized coating adds 15–25 years to service life in exposed conditions.
  • Stainless Steel U-Clamp SS 304 or SS 316 for marine, coastal, chemical, and food-grade applications where corrosion resistance is critical.
  • Heavy-Duty U-Clamp Thicker wall, higher load rating, suitable for large-diameter pipes and high-pressure industrial lines.
  • Custom U-Clamp Non-standard OD, leg length, thread pitch, or base plate dimensions — manufactured against drawing or sample.

Where U-Clamps Are Used

  • Construction & Civil: Securing pipe runs in buildings, infrastructure, and underground utilities.
  • HVAC: Supporting chilled water, hot water, and refrigerant piping in mechanical rooms and ceiling voids.
  • Plumbing: Overhead and wall-mounted pipe support in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Industrial Piping: Process pipe support in factories, plants, and manufacturing facilities — especially high-load horizontal runs.
  • Automotive: Exhaust, fuel, and hydraulic line securing in vehicle fabrication.
  • Agriculture: Irrigation pipe support and water system installations.
  • Electrical & Cable: Securing conduit and cable runs where U-bolt style mounting is specified.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a U-clamp and a U-bolt? They are the same component — "U-bolt" refers to the fastener shape; "U-clamp" refers to its function as a pipe clamp. Both terms are used interchangeably in the industry.

Which material should I choose for outdoor U-clamps? Galvanized MS for general outdoor use; SS 304 for coastal or mildly corrosive environments; SS 316 for marine, chemical, or heavily corrosive conditions.

Can U-clamps be used for vibration control? Standard U-clamps have no vibration damping. For vibration-heavy systems (pumps, compressors), use rubber lined split clamps instead, which include an EPDM liner that absorbs vibration between clamp and pipe.

Do you supply U-clamps with base plates? Yes — U-clamps can be supplied with standard base plates or saddles. Share the mounting requirement with your quote request.

What is the lead time for bulk U-clamp orders? Standard sizes: 1–2 weeks from confirmed PO. Custom sizes: 2–4 weeks.
